Spaceflight is probably a bit of a niche for X-plane. Perhaps not many on the X-plane forum have tried. However, if you like spaceflight enough to do in X-plane, then you probably own Orbiter as well. (I myself dabbled in X-plane 9 before I found Orbiter.) I don't own X-plane 10, but I hope you get an answer.

To power up the space shuttle and takeoff from the runway, simply open PlaneMaker (its a separate utitlity in the main X-plane folder), then select the space shuttle, open up the 'weights and fuel' editor, and add lots of fuel to it. You will now need to create a fuel tank.
